Mun: What was your character's childhood like? How has it influenced them since?
Rose grew up in a single parent home in a working class neighborhood. She might have been without a father but she didn't grow up without his influence. Jackie made sure that Pete was a big part of her daughter's life despite his death when she was an infant.
Pete being missing from her life also colored it in other ways. She changed the past and kept him alive, if only briefly. It hadn't been a conscious thought to do, it just happened when the opportunity presented itself. When she and the Doctor went into Pete's world, Rose would have risked much just to see him alive again. It was the ultimate what if. What would my life have been like with her dad in it. In the end, it was a good thing that she would have visited him come 'hell or high water' but it could have equally had disastrous results
Her life was a fairly normal upbringing. Rose went to school, hung out with her friends, had boyfriends and enjoyed life. The fact that she's secure enough in who she is to argue with the Doctor, speak her mind to strangers and not be afraid to jump in to situations with both feet is thanks to Jackie. There's a line in S2 episode, Doomsday, where Jackie says she hasn't done anything with her life and Pete responds with you brought her up and motions toward Rose. That's the truth. Everything that Rose is, is because of Jackie and how she was raised. From her stubborn determination to her empathy with others, Rose is the sum of both her parents. Whether they were physically in her life or just stories told, Jackie and Pete had much to do with it.

What's the most incredible experience you ever had?
The most incredible experience I've ever had was traveling with the Doctor. The moment that he put his hand in mine and said "run", my life has never been the same. I learned that there was more to life than working in a shop, eating chips, hanging with mates and watching Mickey watch football. I've been to other planets, been back to days that have been dead and gone, been forward in time to see the end of the world. I've helped stop World War Three, tried to help with the Sycorax, even saved the Doctor's life a few times with my tiny human brain. Through it all, the one constant, was the TARDIS. When I didn't have the Doctor I had her.
The first time I saw her, I thought the Doctor was mad. We were being chased by a headless, plastic version of my boyfriend at the time. Yeah, that's another story for another day. Anyways, the Doctor ran inside this wooden blue box. No way was I going to follow him inside. That was suicide, but the fence was too high to climb, the gate was locked, there really wasn't any choice. After a few panicked moments, I thought what the hell and followed him inside. That's when I learned about Time Lord science, it was bigger on the inside. The Doctor assured me that the combined forces of Genghis Khan couldn't get inside, that we were safe. He was right. I always felt safe when I was inside the TARDIS, a little weirded out at first to be inside a ship that was alive but always welcomed. The hum lulled me to sleep at night, the constant noise and need to balance myself with the jerking motions became second nature. The TARDIS took me on adventures, welcomed me back and most of all allowed me to save the Doctor whenI he needed it most.
It took me days to be able to fall asleep easily after I wasn't on board her anymore. I know the Doctor has a deep bond with his ship, but I never really understood it until I didn't have her around. I don't have the same connection that he does with it, not even close, but I did have a sense of losing something of myself when she wasn't there anymore. Maybe it was the two years I spent on her with the Doctor or maybe it was the residual effect of our connection when I looked into the heart of the TARDIS. Doesn't matter, not really, it's something that I share with the Doctor if only a little bit.
The most incredible experience I've ever had was stepping into a wooden blue box and saw the wonder of the TARDIS.

Symbolism: 1) dragonfly: If you see a dead dragonfly, then the news will be bad.
Rose rarely remembered her dreams but when she did they were vivid. Only two times in her life had they been as if she'd lived them. She could feel the wind on her skin and smell the rain in the air, they were that real to her. Both of them had involved the Doctor and she shouldn't really be surprised about that fact. The first was the dream that she'd had after she'd been trapped in Pete's World and he was calling to her to say good-bye. The other was years later, when the bees began to disappear and the stars began to fade.
The other star in both of those dreams had been a dragonfly. Rose was beginning to hate the graceful creatures. The first time that she'd dreamt about them with the Doctor she hadn't understood what the message was trying to tell her. She actually hadn't remembered that bit as her whole concentration had been on the Doctor's voice and what he was trying to tell her.
It wasn't until the second dream, when she'd been trying to find the Doctor but he kept being forever out of her reach that Rose had realized that she'd dreamed about a dragonfly both times. After the Doctor had left her back on Bad Wolf Bay with the other version of him, this time Rose realized that it would likely be forever, she'd gone over every minutia detail of the dream. She picked it apart, analyzed it, wondering why she hadn't seen the similarities between the two until it was too late. She'd been so focused on trying to get the message to the Doctor, to help him, that Rose had completely missed that devastating news was coming. She hoped that would be the last time that she saw a dead dragonfly in the field of flowers. Rose didn't want to lose the Doctor a third time, though a voice in the back of her head told her that bad news always came in threes.

When you put on the TV you find it's showing an adventure of yours
"Want to see what's on the telly?" Rose asked her little brother, Tony who just looked at her with wide eyes from his play pen. "I will take that as a yes." She grinned and flicked the remote.
"Ugh." She bypassed the soap that was currently playing and began to channel surf. There was a kaleidoscope of colors and sounds as one by one, Rose dismissed the offerings. "Seriously, why have I never noticed that there isn't anything on, on the weekends?"
"That might be because you spend all of your time at that place." Jackie said from the doorway. 'That place' being Torchwood that seemed to consume the lives of her husband and daughter. "I think I see less of you now than when you were traveling about with the Doctor."
Rose didn't bother to comment on that. It was the same argument that they'd had since she'd started there. Instead she silently watched the monitor though not really seeing or hearing what was being played. Rose was lost in her memories. That was, until Jackie's loud exclamation of "OH MY GOD" penetrated the fog.
"What?" Rose whipped her head around to look at Tony, thinking something horrible had happened. Only to find him playing happily with his toys. Next, her attention went to her mother who was staring horrified at the television. Rose's brow knit with her confusion and then her expression matched her mother's in horror when she saw what had commanded Jackie's attention.
"That's ---" Rose couldn't even finish the thought.
"Yes, it is." Jackie spoke, her anger rising. "I do not look like that. OI, I don't sound like that either. PETE!!" Her voice rose to reach her husband in the other room. "GET IN HERE! Look at that woman's hair. You can see the roots."
Rose wasn't sure if her mum was talking about the actress that was playing her or the one playing Rose. The roots were visible on both.
"You? What about me? Seriously, I do not have that big of a mouth. They got the Doctor pretty good though." That was said with a fond sadness. The Northern accent was something that she'd missed but would never have told him.
"What? What is it?" Pete had hurried into the room but stopped when he saw the anger in the lines of Jackie and Rose's bodies. "Has something happened on the news?" He assumed that something happened to need Torchwood's assistance but retracted that thought when both women turned their ire in his direction.
"I want to sue. I want to sue for every penny that they have and make them stop production." Jackie hissed at her husband who still had a confused look.
Pete's gaze followed the pointing finger of his wife toward the television screen and saw an actress that sort of looked like his daughter and some man in a leather jacket. He still wasn't getting it until the actress called the man Doctor, then he began to pay attention to the dialogue. "They've made a show of your adventures with the Doctor? There isn't a Doctor here and the one I met didn't look like that." How could they have got his daughter fairly close in looks but missed by a mile with the Doctor? How did they even know about the Doctor?
"Hold on, how do they even know there is a Doctor? No one but you, Mickey, and Jake knew about him."
Rose shook her head, "not true, he's listed in the files of Torchwood from that time that we were here before and then the last time. Still it means that someone from Torchwood did this."
"But not him." Pete pointed to the screen. "He looks nothing like the Doctor."
Rose opened her mouth to tell her dad that he did but before she could, her mother's angry voice interrupted them.
"Can we get back to the point? Who cares how the bloody people got the information, they have it and they have to be stopped."
Rose was admittedly surprised that her mother was that upset about a show about the Doctor and Rose. Impressed, but surprised.
"I do not act like that! And I'm not that old looking." Jackie hissed at the screen when the actress playing her came into view and it all fell into place for Rose and she bit back a smile.

Glitch
It was one of the many things that Rose loved about the Doctor. Those little things that he got wrong and the banter that they would go through to get around his admitting that he was wrong. She supposed with all the traveling through time and space that he did, being off a year to a nine hundred year old man would make it a bit of an ish. Twelve hours to him was the same as twelve months for her. The seventeenth century was close enough to the twenty first century in his mind.
For her, it just made their traveling that much more exciting. You literally never knew what would be outside the TARDIS doors. You might be expecting New Italy on a far away planet in a distant time and get eighteenth century Wales, but it would still be an adventure. It would still be full of excitement and fun. Even the TARDIS' glitches were fun. She couldn't count the number of times that she'd fallen arse over teakettle when the TARDIS landed but no matter the times, Rose would be laughing.
Every day was an adventure with the Doctor and she wouldn't miss it for the world, glitches or no.

Mun: How does your character deal with losing someone close to them?
Rose will deal and move on but she hates that aspect of her life. If she could change it she would. The prime example of that is her father's death. It wasn't like Rose had planned to save his life. She really did just want to be there with him when he died like she told the Doctor. The thing is though how could you just stand by and watch? You can't.
It also depends on the circumstances. With Doomsday, she was perfectly fine to be cut off from her mum sending her to Pete's World. Of course, part of that was the knowledge that Mickey would be there and her mum would be with Pete. She wouldn't be alone.
Mickey staying behind in Rise of the Cybermen was hard for Rose but she knew that she had to let him find his way just as she had with the Doctor. I also, think in the back of her mind that she hoped, despite what the Doctor said, that she would be able to see him again.
Here is where I diverge from some popular fanon thoughts. I do not believe that Rose spent her time trying to find a way to get back to the Doctor after Doomsday. Rose is selfish and there would always be a hint of trying to find a way back to him, but I don't think it would become her White Whale. Rose definitely took advantage of the cracks in reality when the stars began to go out to get what she wanted but if that had never happened she wouldn't have created it.
In Journey's End, if Rose truly hadn't thought that the Doctor was right then nothing on this Earth would have stopped her from leaving v2.0 in Pete's World and traveling about with Ten and Donna. Rose is stubborn and selfish at times yet understands when it's time to let go. She will do the right thing.

"A mother raises her children and thinks she knows them well, but she doesn't know them at all."
Rose couldn't understand her mum's concerns. She might not be the Rose that her mum knew, how could she be after all the things that she'd done with the Doctor? That was a good thing though. At least in Rose's eyes it was. She knew that no matter where she traveled and what she did she would always have a little of the Council Estates in her. At her core, she will always be the Rose that her mum knew. Besides, how was it a bad thing that she was taking after the Doctor? He put himself in danger, helping others without wanting or caring about the thanks.
"I don't care." Rose told Jackie. "People change all the time, yeah? I'm just changing differently. Better." She walked around the console toward her mum. "I'm still me. I'll always be the daughter that you raised me to be. I know you think that the only reason I come back to Earth is to visit you. It's not. This will always be my home no matter where I go."
She still remembered the feeling that she had when the Doctor took her to see the end of the world. All those alien looking aliens and Cassandra as the last human who was nothing but lipstick and skin. Rose had come a long way since that time, but there would always be a bit of sadness that the Earth would be destroyed. Even if it was a billion years into the future. The TARDIS might be where she lived now but Earth would always be her home.

"Well, experts never know - it takes outsiders to know."
You know that phrase about you can't see the forests for the trees? That happens sometimes and it helps to have others to see it. Fresh eyes that don't really know what they're lookin' at to see what you've spent hours trying to see. It wasn't UNIT or Torchwood that noticed the stars going out. It was a kid with a new telescope that did a science report on it. We didn't even notice the bees leaving, that was another science project that reported on it.
My dad, Pete, was asked to come to the local science fair and present the ribbons for the winners. Dad, Mickey, Jake, mum and me went as a lark, part of Torchwood's publicity, yeah? We didn't think anything about the bees leaving. We all just assumed it was global warming or whatever but the stars going out --- that captured our attention.
We got back to Torchwood and looked at satellite images for the time period the kid mentioned. He was right and the scary part was that they were still going out, one by one. Once we started following it and reporting it, UNIT got involved. All of that led me to finding Donna and the Doctor. So you could say, that the world was saved by two kids. They both noticed something that the combined intelligence of UNIT and Torchwood didn't. Sometimes it does take outsiders to know what expects missed.

Not the least of which was dying and coming back to life. There was a spark between them and it grew into a fun friendship that included shopping and a demon attacking.
The Archive and Shasta all grown up
In the community there was a plot where adults became kids and kids became adults. This brings a smile every time I think of this thread. They were two kids going through puberty suddenly finding themselves in adult bodies. The awkwardness of talking to your crush and seeing how they will grow up. The fun times of realizing OMG yesh I will have boobs and the force of gravity was changed on you all rolled up into one thread.
Rose Tyler and Gary Seven
The mun for Gary Seven and I decided that during one of Rose's dimension hoppings she'd run into him before. Since his canon is so very much like Time Lords, we thought that he helped her and UNIT find their way to Donna and the Doctor. This encounter was feeling out that backstory and it worked really well
Pick three roleplay threads that you did NOT actually play in, but you read and followed because they were so incredibly good. What made them great, to you?
Ruth and Harry from Spooks
Their voices were so very much in character and it was like watching a scene in the show. The chemistry was there as well as their quirks. It was brilliantly done.
Illyria and Lilith from Supernatural talk
OMG, I laughed so hard at this thread. People were dying and the village was erupting into violence and these two drawing on the sidewalk with their gruesome designs. They remained in character and gave the heavy plot a bit of a lightweight delight.
Robin Hood, Guy of Gisborne and Vaisey have a fight.
Brilliant. It captured the relationship between all three and Vaisey being his usual self getting out of the way of violence yet still egging it on.

Spend a day in your younger OR older body
Rose stepped out of the experimental chamber in Torchwood and stared at the expressions looking back at her. "What?" Her brow knit, that wasn't right. That wasn't her voice. She experimented again. "Hullo." Definitely not her voice. She glanced down and was horrified at the sight.
"What the hell?!"
It was wrong, very wrong. The string of curse words that were erupting from the child standing in front of them. They knew it was Rose and not a shape shifting alien. They'd all been involved in the time experiment and yet it was hard to believe that the innocent face turning the air blue around her was Rose Tyler.
"Think it was a bit of a cock up." Jake said and Pete winced. He could be forgiven for taking a step backward out of the line of fire as the petite blond cherub turned her anger in that direction.
"You think? What bit gave it away? The fact that I'm in my ten year old body? Observant you are."
"Shoulda kept your mouth shut, mate." Pete mumbled then held up his hands placatingly when Rose's ire was turned toward him. Father or no, Tyler rage wasn't something that you wanted directed at you. "Not sayin' a word! We'll figure it out, sweetheart. We have the best minds working on this experiment." As soon as the words left his mouth, Pete regretted them.
"THEY GOT ME IN THIS MESS!" Rose wanted to stomp her foot but she refrained from the temptation. It was bad enough that she was stuck like this but she wasn't going to give in to childish tantrums.
She closed her eyes and counted to ten hoping to get the panic and the anger under control. Rose was on her fifth round of counting to ten when the battle finally was won. "Right then." Rose opened her eyes, her tone calm. Well, as calm as can be expected. "We need to fix this. Go through the data and find out where it went wrong." She glanced down and sighed, "besides the obvious." No one moved, they were still staring at her. Rose voice rose, "Go on! Move! I'm not gonna go through life in a ten year old body or second childhood."
With that, the room erupted into activity.
Pete moved to his daughter's side and put a hand on her shoulder. "We'll fix this, Rose."
"Yeah." She paused. "'Cause if you don't by tonight you're gonna be the one to tell mum."
Pete froze, then his voice rose to be heard above the din. "Get moving people. We need an answer in five hours!"

#134 - "People think we lead lives of glamour and romance, but we're really lonely - terribly lonely."
It was there, always there, underneath the wide smile, the excitement of showing her some place new, or the joy of adventure. It was more prevalent in his other incarnation, the one that was closer to the Last Great Time War but he still had it. That look of pain and loneliness that she could see deep in his eyes no matter what.
That man that she'd met when she'd first looked up the Doctor. The one that was studying him. He'd said the Doctor's constant companion was death, but he was wrong, it was loneliness. She knew that she helped with that. At least she hoped that she'd taken away some of it. Rose figured that as long as his people were gone, it would always be present. Rose sometimes wondered what he was like before the war. Did he have that loneliness when he was traveling about the galaxy with Sarah Jane and the others? Or was he lonely then, too away from his planet and people?
Running, he was always running. She'd thought, at first, that he was running toward the thrill of whatever was around the next corner. It probably was that in the beginning but after time, she thought, that he was more likely running from himself. When she'd told him that his life was better with two, it had been a flippant remark and her way of telling him that he wasn't going to get rid of her easily. Rose hadn't realized when it had become the cornerstone of her wish for him, but it had. While he was traveling to other planets, going to dates that were dead and passed, Rose wanted to know that he wasn't by himself, that he had someone with him.
She'd watched the TARDIS fade away with him and Donna inside and the other Doctor's hand in hers. That reassuring grasp telling her that everything would be all right until he'd softly told her about Donna. Letting her know what the Doctor would have to do in order to keep her alive. Rose felt pain for Donna, everything that she'd lose, but deeper was the pain of thinking of him being on his own again. She hoped that he'd pick up another companion, someone to ease the loneliness inside and to show him the joy of discovery in new things again.

List: Times you've saved the world*
*Helped the Doctor save the world.
1. Swung on a chain and kicked a couple of plastic men into the Nestene Consciousness.
2. Helped stop World War Three with Harriet Jones and the Doctor.
3. Touched a Dalek. Okay sure that might have started the ending of the world but because of my touch it changed him and made him feel. So it evens out in the end, yeah?
4. Absorbed the heart of the TARDIS and dissolved the emperor of the Daleks. Don't really remember much of that even now.
5. Pretended to be controlled by Cyber Industries so my dad and I could get inside where they were making Cybermen.
6. Technically it wasn't really saving the world but I shot out a window in a rocket which sucked out the bad guy into open space. You know seeing that in text, it looks like a really stupid thing to do but it worked.
7. Let go of weights that was keeping me from falling into the Void with the Battle at Canary Wharf. Yeah, that looks stupid in print, too but the lever had come unlocked and someone had to put it back.
8. Figured out a way (well not me specifically) to travel to other realities to get Donna to be in the right place at the right time to warn the Doctor.
9. Helped fly the TARDIS, towing Earth back to where it belonged.

Mun prompt: What are your favourite parts of your character's canon?
There are so many moments in Rose's canon that I can watch over and over, and do. From the very first episode when she meets the Doctor, the look that she gives him when he's trying to figure out where the massive circular object is that the Nestene Consciousness is using. The expression is so Rose and I think defines their relationship. She might have a puny human brain comparatively speaking but as Donna often says he can be a dumbo sometimes. Rose steps in to point out the obvious at times.
Dalek is another episode that is one of my favorites. It shows that all Rose can see is someone being tortured and she has to stop it. Even knowing what the Daleks did to the Doctor's world she still has compassion for the Dalek. To be honest that's my favorite thing about Rose. Besides the tendency toward selfishness, it's her compassion for others.
Rose is flawed and that's fun to explore. She's very jealous when it comes to the Doctor and not just romantically. Though she is that as well. I love the flawed glimpses that we get of Rose throughout her canon. She takes Mickey for granted that he will wait patiently while she goes traveling with the Doctor. At first, she wanted Mickey to travel with them but later when the Doctor suggests it Rose doesn't really want to share her experiences. She's selfish, jealous, and stubborn and canon shows it all.
So yeah, my favorite parts of Rose's canon is all of it. The good, the bad and the ugly. *g*
